Bringing General Aviation Back Down to Earth.
A member-owned flying club growing the GA community one pilot — and one future pilot — at a time.
The Honorable Wings Flying Club is a new non-equity flying club based at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport (KTYR).
Owning a piece of an airplane used to be within reach for everyday pilots — we started this club to bring that back. We're building a community of pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and future aviators who share the cost, the community, and the joy of flight, all while giving back to our community our airport and the next generation of pilots.
We're currently in our founding phase and looking for charter members who want to help shape the club from the ground up.

The Honorable Wings Flying Club exists to bring general aviation back down to earth — literally and figuratively. There was a time when owning an airplane was well within reach for the everyday pilot. Somewhere along the way, that changed. We started this club to close that gap and put flying back within reach, one member at a time.
We believe the health of general aviation depends on growing the community, not just preserving it. That means welcoming pilots and non-pilots alike, supporting our local airport, and — maybe most importantly — getting kids excited about aviation early. (Someone's got to be flying us around when we're old and gray. We're thinking ahead.)
Unlike aircraft partnerships or fractional ownership, members don't buy into the aircraft itself. Instead, members pay dues and hourly rates for access — similar to a gym membership, but for airplanes. Cost sharing is what brings aircraft ownership back down to earth: no six-figure buy-in, no hangar queen sitting idle in your name, just a group of people who love flying, sharing the cost and the fun of keeping an airplane airworthy and active.
It used to be easy for the average person to own a piece of an airplane. Rising costs have pushed that further out of reach for a lot of would-be pilots and airplane owners. We started the Honorable Wings FLying Club because we think that gap is worth closing — and because flying is better with company anyway.
As a social club, we care about more than just Hobbs time. We're committed to volunteering and giving back to our airport community, supporting local aviation events, and introducing the next generation to flight — because general aviation only grows if we make room for the people coming up behind us.
Develop the Club, for the club by the club. We will always survey membership prior to meeting and voting.
Phase 1 — Trainer Aircraft: A Piper Cherokee 180 based at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport (KTYR), serving local flying, proficiency, and primary flight training.
Phase 2 — Travel Aircraft: As membership grows, we plan to add a faster, more capable aircraft (such as a Cirrus SR22T or Piper Saratoga) for cross-country trips, overnight travel, and advanced pilot training (high-performance and complex endorsements).
Phase 3 — Multi-Engine Aircraft: Longer term, we hope to add a twin-engine aircraft (such as a Beechcraft Baron or Cessna 310) to support multi-engine and MEI training and true point-to-point travel capability.
Pilots who want more flexibility than a typical rental — including overnight and weekend trips, advance booking for travel, and the ability to build time toward new ratings.
Aviation Enthusiasts (Non-Pilots) who don't fly themselves but love the community, the airport, and the idea of getting off the ground — whether that's flying along with fellow members or just being part of the club.
Student Pilots training at their own pace under Part 61. Bring your own CFI (a checkout ride is required to be added to club insurance), or hire one of our club CFI members to train you from the ground up.
Members pay monthly dues plus an hourly rate when flying.
All new members must complete a checkout ride with a membership-approved CFI before solo flight in a club aircraft — no exceptions, this is what keeps our insurance (and our airplane) happy.
Our CFIs are members too, and are available to train fellow members or check out pilots who bring their own instructor.
Dues and hourly rates: Still up in the air (pun intended) — we're finalizing the numbers and will post them here soon. Reach out if you'd like to be part of that conversation.
We're currently recruiting founding members. Email us at info@honorablewings.com to get involved.
Do I need to be a pilot to join? No. We welcome Aviation Enthusiasts (non-pilot members) who love the community and want to be part of the club — whether it be volunteering, flying with fellow members, getting involved at the airport or giving back to the community through the club.
Can I learn to fly through the club? Yes. Student pilots train at their own pace under Part 61 — bring your own CFI (a checkout ride is required to add them to club insurance) or hire one of our club CFI members. Either way, a checkout ride with a membership-approved CFI is required before solo flight.
What aircraft does the club currently operate? Piper Cherokee 180, based at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport (KTYR).
How does insurance work? The club will be providing insurance for the airframe and pilots will be insured with their own non owner pilot insurance, don't worry, its not too expensive.
How is the club structured? Honorable Wings Club is organized as a nonprofit membership club under a 501(c)(7) structure. Aircraft are held separately for liability purposes. We will add more information later as we develop further.
